Easy Shower Door Assembly

You may wish to save some money by installing your shower door yourself. With the right information and tools you will be able to have your shower door installed and ready for use in no time at all.
Of course for some people it’s not all about saving money. Some just love the fun and challenge of successfully undertaking a shower door assembly project.
Now to have a successful project, the very first thing you must do is to take the correct measurement of the space into which you will fit the door. Take this measurement twice and be accurate up to one sixteenth of an inch.
You can’t afford to make a mistake in this area as it will cost you time and money. Failure to get the correct measurement can result in an ill-fitting door which will leak or be too big for installation.
It’s a good idea not to do a shower door assembly alone. Putting it together will require some help. Different doors will require different assembly techniques. For instance, hinged doors will require placing doors onto a hinged track which swings outward.
Sliding doors will however require doors being placed on tracks with rollers. Get some help to make it easier.
If you are installing a sliding shower door, you will also need to install tracks at the top and bottom of the door. These will allow the door to slide easily along and also keep the water from seeping out of the shower.
It is very important that the tracks fit snugly at the top and bottom of the door to ensure that seepage doesn’t take place. Don’t put in the top track until after you have completed the side and bottom tracks.
The vertical tracks are what hold the shower doors in place uprightly. Make sure that they are at a ninety degree angle whilst you install them taking care to ensure they remain in the right position. If you are fitting a swinging door, hang the hinge track first. Fit the side that will swing outward into the track.
Hinge shower doors are usually placed in a space large enough to accommodate them. As these doors swing outwards care must be taken to ensure they don’t hit other fixtures such as sinks or toilets. Decorative hinges can also be chosen to highlight the beauty of the swinging shower door.
Once both side tracks are in place for the sliding shower glass the next step is to hang the shower doors themselves putting in the header track last. With jambs and door in, finish up with the hardware such as handles, door framing (if framed) and drip rails.
To ensure a watertight fit, be sure to use the right amount of caulking. Take care to apply it appropriately in thin layers. Too much caulking can ruin a good job.
Well, there you have it. All the information you need for your shower door assembly. With the right tools, some help and patience, putting it together can be so easy.
