Do It Yourself Shower Door Repair

It has been said that you can use your shower door up to 60 hours per year. This frequent use can result in you needing to repair your shower door. If you chose to repair rather than purchase a new shower door, there are a number of steps you will need to take to effectively make your repairs.
Now a number of things may go wrong with a shower door. For instance:
- The rollers which move the doors along may go bad and need replacement
- The shower door latch or enclosure brackets may go in the wear and tear of ordinary everyday use
- Shower door sweeps may also need replacement
- The shower door glass may break
To repair your shower door by replacing the rollers, you will need the physical dimensions. Look closely and determine whether they are round or flat edged. If you are uncertain, remove the shower door from the track to which it is attached and use a screwdriver to remove the rollers.
Once you have this information, you can order online or from a hardware store.
To replace the rollers, simply put them back in place and screw them in. It may be a good idea to clean the track before re-installing the rollers to be sure that they will roll smoothly. Be sure to fasten the rollers securely. Replace the shower doors in their tracts. Now they are as good as new.
To repair your shower door latch, use a screwdriver to remove it and see if it is in a good condition or needs to be replaced. If it is intact and just needed some tightening, return it to its original position on the door and tighten with a screwdriver.
If it is broken or needs to be replaced, remove it and take it to a hardware store and purchase a replacement. Using a screwdriver, fit the replacement. To ensure continued privacy, a good, working catch should be on a door at all times.
A worn sweep at the bottom of a leaky shower door can be replaced. If it is in a fairly good condition, it can be lowered into a position to prevent water seeping from under the door of the shower.
Fixing this problem is fairly easy with the use of a screwdriver and the right material.
It will be necessary to remove the shower door if you are going to repair a broken glass door. If the door is framed it will also be necessary to remove it from the frame and replace it with a complete glass panel. If it is frameless, quite possibly a new glass panel or door will be needed.
Enclosure brackets may also go in the wear and tear of ordinary, everyday use. These brackets secure the shower enclosure, glass panels and doors to the floor and walls of the bathroom. They can be tightened or replaced as necessary.
It is easy to repair your shower door if you have the time, tools and the right information. Make the right diagnosis and get on with the repairs.
